Bali Life

We moved to Bali when Arlo was 18 months, Eia was 10 weeks old and I still felt vaguely like I’d been kicked in the lady garden by an angry horse. Alot of the time, I figured out most of our new life and language alone with two small kids while my husband, Hardin, worked away. I’ve shared all of my honest experiences and Bali life lessons with good humour in blog posts here. If you’re thinking of moving to Bali or visiting Bali with kids and have any questions about stuff that isn’t covered here, just give me a shout!

Bali: Cost of living

“If you want to have a driver, full staff, nanny, big house….you can, if you’ve got the wallet for it. But you can also have a pretty sweet standard of living as a “not rich” normal person… I get this question alot and the truth is it can cost as much or as little as…

Bali with babies: where to buy supplies

When I first arrived in Bali I had to figure everything out all by my onesies but I’m gonna save you the work and tell you where you can find everything you’ll need for babies, toddlers and little kids – cribs, car seats, toddler beds, toys, those “more expensive than gold” organic baby snacks that…

Making (water) babies

When you live on a small island, go to the beach pretty much everyday and have a pool at home (without a pool fence – yes, yes I know, it seems irresponsible but I have my reasons, and I’ll get into that in a bit!) teaching your kids to swim early is a life skill…

Beach with kids: beachbum surf mum hacks

Nobody:Me: “let me tell you what lives in my bottomless, Poppins style beach bag….“ You don’t raise kids on a tropical island and not pick up a thing or five about beach life hacks to make your mum life easier. These are my must packs, all living full time in my mum backpack: 1. TALCUM…

The One With The Wedding

“Ibu – how old is your daughter? She has a really cute ass.” 10 days earlier… We got hitched in the great outdoors in Greolieres, France – a teeny tiny mountain top village in Provence near our then home, about an hour from Cannes. It was a very relaxed, small wedding. We paid for the…

The grass is greener…but then so is my hair

We’ve lived in Bali now for a little over 6 months and hand on head, I’ve barely had one good hair day.  Stick with me lads, it gets more interesting… Thicker, glossier hair is a cruel lie you’re told when you’re pregnant to sugar coat the grim reality of cankles and the creepy disappearance of…

A ‘day of silence’…every mothers not so secret fantasy

Before the pandemic hit, it had been pretty busy here in Bali, what with all the spirits in town. Bali is so much more than the tropical paradise you see on Instagram.  It’s rich culture and traditional values set it apart from its 17,000 plus sister islands. The majority of Balinese are deeply religious and…

Rice ‘3 ways’ and other life lessons

Our eldest little terrorist turned 2 last week so we threw him a bitchin pool party.  Nothing fancy, just bbq, swimming, cake and booze for the grown ups because I don’t know a parent of any toddler that doesn’t need to indulge in a little daytime drinking to get them through a party with children.…

Kids, crap and Karma Kandara

Pre children, Hardin and I backpacked the globe, rock climbing. Holiday accommodation – no stars? No problem! My idea of hell would have been any kind of luxury resort jobby. And beaches where people actually pay for loungers and brollies?  Bitch, please! I’m not a ‘tourist’, I’m a ‘traveller’. Not only were we not the…

Kantor Immigrasi

Oh joy! Just what mummy needs after a morning in the immigration office.  A shopping mall meltdown! 4 sweaty hours ago…. I miss MY car.  We “have” a car but its not ours, its our drivers.  As luxurious as it sounds, its pretty standard practice out here especially for foreigners.  Hubs is Indonesian (but not…
